Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Chairman II of the General Committee (PB) PON Papua Roi Letlora confirmed that he would investigate the alleged ‘elephant football’ in the East Kalimantan vs Aceh match.
In that match, Aceh defeated East Kalimantan with a score of 3-2 at the Barnabas Youwe Stadium, Sentani, Jayapura, Monday (4/10). Aceh ensured victory through an own goal by East Kalimantan player, Risky Romadan.
At that time, Risky kicked the ball into his own goal after the opportunity that Aceh had was able to be countered by the East Kalimantan goalkeeper, Agus Susanto.
The own goal was then suspected as an alleged practice of ‘elephant football’. Moreover, Aceh’s victory made them qualify for the next round with East Kalimantan from Group C, while North Sulawesi, which originally had a chance to qualify, had to be willing to enter the box.
If East Kalimantan and Aceh played out in a draw, then North Sulawesi would have definitely qualified for the next round.
Roi Letlora said he would immediately coordinate to investigate the results of the Aceh vs East Kalimantan match. However, he asked all parties to first think positively before the results of the investigation carried out by the PB PON party.
“We have to think positively first. PB PON will coordinate with the match committee. We cannot be silent, nor can we close our eyes,” said Roi by telephone.
“But we will first conduct an investigation if there are indications there [kecurangan]. It has to be fast, because the results will also affect.”
Meanwhile, PSSI General Chair Mochammad Iriawan or Iwan Bule after asking PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi who was in Papua to monitor football matches during PON.
“We will ask for a report from the technical delegate and supervisor of the Papua PON match on the Aceh vs East Kalimantan PON match,” said Yunus Nusi to CNNIndonesia.com.
