Allegations of Blasphemy of Religion Minister Yaqut Worse Than Ahok

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

General Chairman PA 212 Slamet Maarif regrets the carelessness of the Minister of Religion (Menag) Ruby Cholil Qoumas which compares sound Azan and the barking of dogs in response to the circular letter from the Minister of Religion regarding the use of toa in mosques and prayer rooms.

“Actually, the Minister of Religion wanted to compare the noise, but unfortunately he was not careful in looking for a comparison, so it was as if he was comparing the call to prayer with a dog. I regret the carelessness of the Minister of Religion,” Slamet told reporters. CNNIndonesia.comThursday (23/2).

Slamet said Yaqut’s controversial remarks had created a different perception in the community. In fact, it can be perceived as an act of blasphemy by society. He then asked Yaqut to apologize publicly for his statement.

“This is so as not to create a commotion,” said Slamet.

Separately, Acting Waketum PA 212 Novel Bamukmin assessed that Yaqut always made noise over the statements he made to the public. For him, Yaqut’s current statement is worse than the verse of poetry that Sukmawati had uttered comparing the kidung and the Azan.

It is known, Sukmawati had written a poem entitled ‘Mother Indonesia’. In one of the stanzas of her poem, Sukmawati alludes to the chant and the call to prayer.

PA 212 also emphasized that Yaqut’s statement was more severe than the former convict of the blasphemy case Basuki T Purnama (Ahok) who defamed verses from the Koran.

“The allegation of blasphemy by Yaqut is worse than Ahok and Sukmawati, where Sukmawati compares the call to prayer to the sound of kidung but Yaqut compares it to the voice of a dog,” Novel said.

Novel also plans to report Yaqut to the police as a result of his statement. He also said Yaqut’s remarks were classified as a general offense. So that the police can arrest without a report though.

“Because the impact is very noisy for the nation,” he said.

Minister of Religion Yaqut requested that the volume of the prayer for mosques and prayer rooms be set to a maximum of 100 dB decibels) and the time of use be adjusted every time before the call to prayer.

He conveyed this in response to a circular regulating the use of loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms that he issued some time ago. However, he then gave an example of other sounds that can cause disturbance. One of them is the sound of a dog barking.

“The simplest thing is, if we live in a complex, for example. Left, right, front and back, all keep dogs. For example, barking at the same time, are we disturbed or not? What do these sounds mean? we arrange it so that it does not become a disturbance. Speakers in the mosques are welcome to use, but please arrange them so that they are not disturbed,” said Yaqut.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Roy Suryo already has plans to report Yaqut to the Polda Metro Jaya today as a result of his statement.
