Lotto Dstny sports director Allan Davis apologized on Sunday for a number of unwanted messages he had sent to a woman on Twitter. The Australian was therefore not taken to the Tour de France by his team.
Davis, 42, was accused of sending unwanted messages to a woman at the end of last month, a few days before the start of the Tour. Screenshots of those messages appeared on social media. This included a bare-chested photo.
“I deeply regret the way I conducted myself and the impact it had on the person involved,” Davis told in a statement. Cyclingnews. “I acknowledge the personal messages in May and June 2023. We discussed a variety of topics from relationships to family and work.”
“I understand that my words and actions have sometimes been inappropriate. I have not considered the consequences of my behavior and I am truly sorry. I have reflected on my behavior and have taken steps to educate myself about appropriate online behavior. I understand the importance of a respectful environment, both online and offline.”
Davis, who was a professional cyclist from 2001 to 2014, was an important link in the coaching of top sprinter Caleb Ewan. Ewan is aiming for new success in the Tour, after three stage victories in 2019 and two victories in 2020. He has already finished second and third once in this Tour.
In addition to Ewan, Lotto Dstny’s Tour team also includes Dutchman Pascal Eenkhoorn. They are accompanied by only Belgians. The Italian Jacopo Guarnieri was also part of the team, but dropped out in the fifth stage.
