State of “One Pounder Challenge 2023” (10th, Semba Minamikyuhoji store)
The hamburger chain “Burger King” (Representative: Kazuhiro Nomura) will hold an all-you-can-eat giant burger project “One Pounder Challenge 2023” on March 10th. Challengers who won the right to participate gathered at the only venue in western Japan, “Semba Minamikyuhoji” (Chuo-ku, Osaka).
Participation fee is 3,900 yen, time limit is 45 minutes, and all-you-can-eat burgers, fries, and drinks (comes with a T-shirt and wapper case as a participation prize). Last year’s popular event was revived, and this year it will be held four times by expanding the number of stores and participation slots. In addition, it also has a game feature in which the top few people who have eaten a large number of burgers are invited to the end of the year “One Pounder His Challenge 2023 Final”.
The burger that will be the main character this time is the limited-time “King Yeti The One Pounder” (2,190 yen per item), which is the heaviest in the giant cheeseburger series “Cheese Burger Slope”. 4 beef patties grilled directly over an open flame, 6 gouda cheese, and plenty of white cheese sauce combined to create a non-standard volume of 507g and 1495kcal.
As a rule of all-you-can-eat, you have to finish all burgers, fries, and drinks before refilling (15 minutes before LO). You can also order ketchup to change the taste. On the evening of the first day, from 4:00 pm onwards, 6 men, who were competing for the first time, gathered together and started all at once with the signal of the staff, with a sense of tension.
The participants were single-minded and silently faced with the burger. The person who finished the first piece in 5 minutes and 33 seconds, a little early, said, “I’m quite full and I’m happy enough. I want to eat slowly.” After that, one person followed by another, but his expression became cloudy, saying, “My jaw hurts” and “I can’t do the third one.”
Last year, there was a man who ate eight of them, but the staff said, “Everyone starts looking far away after eating one.” The participants this time also gradually stopped their hands, and at the end, some stared at the table and others held their heads.
45 minutes passed in no time. Mr. Kazumasa Nobuhiro (Kawachinagano city, man in his 20s), who ate the most two and a half pieces from 4:00 on the first day, is a Birkin fan who collects stickers of the store. He was delighted, saying, “I couldn’t get a ticket last time, so I’m happy to be able to participate this time.” He gave me a cheeky smile.
This time, one Birkin-loving girl (30s) from the Lmaga.jp editorial department also participated. “I was swallowed by the atmosphere of the venue, and I ate about 40% of it in about 10 minutes, but it was painful because there was no change in taste… I reset it with potatoes, but the second half stalled,” she struggled. Was.
The first “One Pounder Challenge 2023” will be held four times each day from March 10 to 13. Tickets for 120 people will be sold out in about a day, and the second and subsequent ones will be announced at a later date.
