All-time record: over 213,000 jobs available in Belgian companies | inland

The number of vacancies increased by 3.86% compared to the first quarter of this year. In Flanders the number of vacancies increased by 3,588, in Brussels there were 2,540 more vacancies than in the previous quarter and in Wallonia there were 1,818 vacancies.

The vacancy rate also increased from 4.83 to 4.97%. This is the number of vacancies in relation to the total number of jobs in the company. This is also an absolute record. The higher the vacancy rate, the more difficult it will be for companies to find suitable staff to fill jobs. This rate is highest in the Flemish region with 5.60%, followed by the Brussels-Capital region with 4.25% and the Walloon region with 3.90%.

This concerns more than 184,000 vacancies for permanent employment and nearly 30,000 temporary jobs. This is a total of nearly 8,000 more than in the first quarter of this year.

Most of these jobs are available in the nonprofit (50,000), science and services (38,000), industrial (31,000), commerce (27,000) and construction (16,000) sectors.

The numbers are remarkable given the energy crisis that hit many companies already in the second quarter. It remains to be seen how vacancies will evolve this quarter as energy-intensive companies choose to shut down production due to skyrocketing energy bills.
