All three commuters tested in Ghent are negative for monkeypox

The pre-alert phase of the medical intervention plan had been activated on Wednesday afternoon in Ghent after the report of three commuters who were possibly carriers of monkeypox. During a ticket check on the Welkenraedt – Kortrijk train in the afternoon, three people without a ticket were intercepted.

The latter had to leave the train at Gand-Saint-Pierre station. It then appeared that they might be infected with the virus. The three people were taken to Ghent University Hospital (UZ Gent) where they were tested for monkeypox.

All three tests came back negative on Thursday evening. The other travelers were evacuated and given a brief medical examination and advice. The Flemish Agency for Care and Health had indicated on Wednesday that the risk of contamination of other travelers was very limited.
