While the Xiaomi Mi 10 will be released in a week in France, we have already been able to take it in hand. a smartphone with a fairly classic design but excellent finishes to make it a high-end model.
The Xiaomi Mi 10

At the end of last week, Xiaomi unveiled its last two high-end smartphones in Europe, the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. We were able to receive them this week and we are already working on the test of Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, which will be published next week. However, to make you wait, we have also decided to take charge of the Mi 10, which offers a design almost similar to its Pro version. Please note that he will also be entitled to his own test later.
When we discover the Xiaomi Mi 10 for the first time, we face a beautiful baby. It must be said that the smartphone weighs its weight with its screen of 6.67 inches and its battery of 4780 mAh for a total of 208 grams on the scale. But it can hardly be said that this is not justified. In addition to the large size of the device, the Xiaomi Mi 10 also benefits from materials that some would qualify as premium. We are thus entitled to the back with a shiny glass surface and metal contours.
As long as we’re talking about the back, let’s quickly address this shiny glass design. If the Pro version does indeed benefit from a matte effect, this is not the case for the classic Xiaomi Mi 10. Unfortunately, this also means that the smartphone will be particularly prone to fingerprints. Note also that Xiaomi was not satisfied with a classic mirror effect, but integrated shades of blue on the back, with a few plays of light. Also on the back, the Xiaomi Mi 10 incorporates a large photo module of four devices. Let’s be clear, these are cameras positioned vertically, and not in a rectangle as is the case on the Samsung galaxy s20 where the Huawei P40. However, the module is indeed about 2mm thick. Absolutely not much, but it will be enough to make the smartphone wobbly when you use it lying flat on a desk.
But it is mainly for its front that the Xiaomi Mi 10 clashes. On the front, once lit, you can only make out the screen. It must be said that this is a double first for Xiaomi which inaugurated not only the curved screen on its Mi 10, but also the pierced screen. So certainly, the overall design may recall what Samsung has already done with the Galaxy S20, or with the Galaxy S10 last year with the punch in an angle, but the effect is just as successful. The side edges of the screen almost disappear to allow you to take advantage of the screen, but we are also not at the level of tilting Vivo Nex 3 or a Huawei Mate 30 Pro and black borders all around the screen are still visible. This is particularly the case at the top and bottom where they are unfortunately not symmetrical with a slightly wider chin. Too bad, we would have appreciated that these black borders are erased up to the metal frame of the smartphone.

Note however that Xiaomi has particularly taken care of its borders, particularly fine on the contours of the Mi 10. We can only regret a somewhat high positioning of the standby and volume keys on the right edge, not easy to access when holding the smartphone with one hand.
Stereo speaker and 90 Hz screen
Besides the screen, the Mi 10 also detonates with its sound quality and this is felt from the first moments. It must be said that the smartphone is not only equipped with a speaker, but indeed two: one on the lower edge, and one on the upper edge. Therefore, it allows you to comfortably enjoy true stereo over music, games, movies or even … system sounds. Indeed, Xiaomi has decided to put these two speakers to work, including for notifications or the sound for unlocking the screen. This is also why the smartphone aims to be high-end.

Finally, let’s quickly return to the screen as it also tries to mark the high-end appearance of the Xiaomi Mi 10. It indeed benefits from a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Admittedly, we are not at the level of 120 Hz of the Galaxy S20, but it must be said that Xiaomi has put the small dishes in the big ones to highlight this novelty. Indeed, the Chinese manufacturer has revised its software animations for closing or opening applications and some system animations. This results in a clear difference compared to a conventional 60 Hz screen, especially since the Oled panel of the phone allows you to really enjoy the content displayed on the screen.

Obviously, it will still be necessary to wait until the full test to find out what is really in the belly this Xiaomi Mi 10 as much in terms of performance as autonomy or photography. However, with this first look, we can be reassured on the means that the manufacturer has put to make his device a real high-end smartphone.
