The Bundesliga had already received permission to play football again from Chancellor Angela Merkel and the sixteen federal states, but it is now also known when the ball will roll again in the highest league of German professional football: on Saturday 16 May, organizer Deutsche Fußball announced League (DFL) announced.
It will not be as usual, because because of the still haunting coronavirus, there will be no audience in the stadiums. That is one of the conditions under which the competition may resume. Another is that the football players and coaches must be tested frequently for the virus in the coming weeks.
First major competition
Borussia Mönchengladbach-FC Köln was the last game played on Wednesday, March 11, before football in Germany broke out due to the corona virus.
The Bundesliga is the first major European league to start again. The hope is to complete the competition, in which nine rounds still have to be completed, before June 30.
The final of the cup tournament in Germany may be finished in early July, but first the semi-finals FC Saarbrücken-Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich-Eintracht Frankfurt still have to be placed on the calendar.
