All set for a safe party in Times Square

Here in Times Square, preparations are underway to celebrate the new year with the iconic glass ball.

For this reason, the New York City Police Department has announced the security measures that will be implemented in the area.

NYPD spokesman Sergeant Carlos Nieves assures that everything is ready for tomorrow:

“This year as in years past the department is very prepared to protect all people who will come here to celebrate the New Year in Times Square.”

Thomas Galati, the head of the NYPD’s intelligence office, said there is no threat to the city during this celebration.

However, he said they are working closely with the FBI and other agencies to monitor the existence of any threats.

They stressed that thousands of uniformed and plainclothes officers will monitor the area.

In addition, they will have a dog unit specializing in the detection of explosives. And with about a thousand security cameras.

Something that brings peace of mind to New Yorkers and tourists planning to celebrate the New Year here in Times Square.

“And the security is impressive, it feels very safe from everything around, the security is impressive as I said,” says John Taboada

On the other hand, Keila González says:

“Safety first and with all the people and previous cases we’ve seen, you feel a little bit of confidence when you see a lot of safety.”

And if you want to participate in this event, the entry points are through:

Sixth and Eighth Streets and 38th, 49th, 52nd and 56th Streets.

This Saturday it will rain and it is forbidden to bring umbrellas, backpacks, sheets, chairs and alcoholic beverages into this area.

Sergeant Carlos Nieves has several suggestions for attendees:

“We ask you, please, to arrive early, you have to go through the security points.”

Police urge visitors to report any suspicious activity to officers present or by calling 911.
