Under the motto “Writing history together. Peaceful evolution”, a demonstration is planned for Saturday from 1 pm in downtown Leipzig. The meeting was registered by the lateral thinking 711 initiative, but is also being organized by the Leipzig local group lateral thinking 341.

The event on Saturday will be advertised with leaflets in the various districts of Leipzig.

According to media reports, several thousand participants are expected, “all of Germany is invited,” it says on the website of the lateral thinkers.

Since demonstrators are also arriving from outside, there was a run on the Leipzig hotels before the weekend. Problematic, because currently there is the ban on accommodation issued by the general decree. The lateral thinker demonstrators tried to get around this, booked as business travelers in, for example, “MotelOne” branches from Leipzig.

However, the hotel chain canceled the reservations when it was informed of the demo participants’ actions.

There is already protest against the demo. The action network “Leipzig takes a seat” is calling for a central protest rally on Saturday from 1 p.m. on Augustusplatz in Leipzig. “In our city we do not tolerate human-endangering science deniers or the extreme right, who swim with the river and sometimes take over the protest. Criticism of the individual measures is and remains legitimate – but making common with misanthropists is a border crossing.

How many participants are now specifically expected has not yet been confirmed. A large contingent of the police should accompany the demonstration in any case.

According to the city of Leipzig, around 20,000 participants reported for the demo on Saturday.

The meeting notices are currently still being processed under assembly law, and there are still cooperation talks between the registrants, the public order office, the health department and the police, according to the city.
