Disney presents the future of Marvel. On Investor Day 2020, the mouse company fired from all cannons. MCU mastermind Kevin Feige concretized the plans for already known productions and announced new films and series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe every minute. In our overview we call “Announcements, collect!” and summarize everything.
Secret Invasion
Psst, the Secret Invasion begins on Disney +. Samuel L. Jackson puts his eye patch back on and becomes Nick Fury, while Ben Mendelsohn turns green and transforms into the Skrull Talos. In the coming series, the unequal duo has to go Captain Marvel Take on a new Skrull faction to stop the secret infiltration of humanity.
The Secret Invasion was planned well in advance. First, Marvel turned the tables: in the comics, the mean shapeshifters wanted to infiltrate the world’s population, but the MCU turned the Skrulls into desperate refugees hiding from the nasty Kree. With Secret Invasion the studio apparently reverts to the original. In Spider-Man: Far From Home Marvel already revealed that Talon is partnering with Nick Fury. The Skrull has turned into the director of SHIELD and takes on his earthly tasks, while the real Nick flies through space with the green aliens.
Armor Wars
War Machine inherits Iron Man’s mission. Armor Wars is about Tony Stark’s best friend James Rhodey. Don Cheadle slips into his state-of-the-art suit and stars in the upcoming series for Disney +. After Iron Man’s death, the fallen hero’s dangerous Stark technology falls into the wrong hands. War Machine must fight fire with fire to neutralize the impending danger.
Tony Stark’s worst nightmare becomes a reality. The Marvel Cinematic Universe began with the former arms dealer changing heart. The first item on Iron Man’s agenda was to cease sales of its dangerous weapon systems and get them out of the world for good. This is not the first time War Machine has competed against his best friend’s technology – Greetings from Ultron.
Ironheart
Ironheart is the eponymous successor to Tony Stark. Riri Williams follows in Iron Man’s footsteps. The actress Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk) plays the young intelligent beast who assembled her first Iron Man suit in the comics at the age of 15. In the Marvel series for Disney +, genius surpasses the late hero and creates the most advanced suit of all time. Further details are not yet known.
That would probably clarify the question of the successor to Iron Man. So far, the assumption was that Spider-Man would grow into the role. Marvel made Iron Man a mentor to Spidey. Peter Parker inherited the artificial intelligence EDITH, made his own Stark suit and even shares Tony’s weakness for “Back in Black” from LED Zeppelin AC / DC. It is now clear that Ironheart should fill this gap.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The world’s smallest hero is fighting a huge threat. Kang the Conqueror has his sights set on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly slip into the suits of Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne again to compete against the time-traveling villain. Jonathan Majors is set to play the villain from the future.
The two superheroes are not alone. Ant-Man and The Wasp are supported by their families. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer return as Dr. Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne back. After the five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame Scott Lang’s little daughter is finally old enough to help her father. Cassie Lang has been re-cast with Kathryn Newton. Peyton Reed is again directing.
Fantastic Four
Marvel is working on a movie about the Fantastic Four Fantastic Four. Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm will finally make their debut at the MCU. Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, aims to bring the superhero family to the big screen. However, further details are not yet known.
The mouse company makes it possible. Since Disney took over 20th Century Fox, Marvel has been able to use the Fantastic Four and the X-Men again. The film studio can now easily use the characters and integrate them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
The Guardians of the Galaxy celebrate Christmas on Disney +. Marvel is following the example of Star Wars and produces a special holiday special. What can go wrong there? The Christmas film with Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Drax will appear on the in-house streaming service in winter 2022, before it will be released the following year The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 go on. Of course, director James Gunn takes care of both productions.
Do the aliens know the earthly festival of love? Does Groot play the Christmas tree? And Why where is Gamora? After the battle against Thanos, Star-Lord went in search of his green lover. The said Gamora, however, dates from 2014. The foster daughter of the mad titan traveled to the future with Thanos and Nebula to see the Avengers in Endgame to stop. Gamora switched sides again, but never really got to know the Guardians of the Galaxy. It remains to be seen whether James Gunn will resolve this conflict in the Holiday Special.
I Am Groot
His name is Groot and he’s getting his own series. Marvel makes the living tree Guardians of the Galaxy the star of a short film series on Disney +. Groot is also said to encounter brand new and unusual characters in his adventures. How old the wooden head in I Am Groot will be, however, remains to be seen. Marvel may send baby Groot into the race to topple Baby Yoda from the throne of cuteness.
