all new features of the Music app with iOS 15

Apple is expected to release iOS 15 this fall. Unlike other years, Apple Music has not received a redesign or a handful of new tweaks to its application with this new version of the iPhone operating system. However, Apple is creating a broader integration with the Music app on iOS 15. Here’s what’s new.

Apple didn’t wait for iOS 15 to roll out Lossless and Dolby Atmos with Apple Music spatial audio support. Instead, these features were released for everyone on the same day as the WWDC 2021 keynote with iOS 14.6.

One of the few differences for iOS 15 users is that non-Dolby Atmos songs get a new option called “Stereo Spatialize”, which simulates Spatial Audio. It will only be available to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users, and you must manually choose this setting in Control Center by long-pressing the AirPods audio tab and then selecting “Spatialize Stereo.”

Other than that, Apple Music is increasingly integrating with the iOS 15 system, including deeper integration with Messages, FaceTime calls, and the Photos app. Here is everything that is new:

Shared with you: Under the “Listen Now” tab of Apple Music, there is a new “Shared with you” section. This is where you will find music shared by friends from the Messages app on iOS 15. It will also work on Safari, Podcasts, and the Apple TV app, for example.

Memories in photos: Apple Music subscribers can add any of the 70 million songs in the library to enjoy on their devices while creating new memories. This feature of the Photo app also combines personalized song suggestions with the music you’ve tried and what’s in your photos and videos. Song suggestions can even recommend songs that were popular at the time and place of the memory, songs you listened to while traveling, or a song by the artist that you viewed as a souvenir of a concert.

Siri Share: Share onscreen items as Apple Music content. Just say “Send this to Vivek” and Siri will send it. If the item can’t be shared, Siri will offer to send a screenshot instead.

SharePlay en FaceTime: During a FaceTime call with a friend or multiple people, it is possible to listen to Apple Music songs together on iOS 15. Anyone on the call can add songs to the shared queue.

Spatial audio with dynamic head trackingListeners with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max can now have an even more immersive experience of Dolby Atmos music with Apple’s dynamic head tracking.
