All iPhone 17s reportedly have a 24MP front camera

All four iPhone 17 models, including the Slim, Pro, and Pro Max models, expected next year, will feature an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera, according to analyst Jeff Pu. Currently, they are limited to 12 megapixels.

An improvement for selfies

In a research note published for Haitong Investment Bank, the hong-kongais shared a chart showing that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim (replacing the iPhone 17 Plus), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will all feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with six plastic elements. By comparison, all iPhone 15 models feature a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with five elements. The 12-megapixel front-facing camera has been around since the iPhone 11.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed in January that at least one iPhone 17 model would feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens, bolstering the rumor shared by multiple sources and giving it even more substance. Kuo explained that these changes will “significantly improve image quality.”

Indeed, thanks to a higher resolution of 24 megapixels, photos can maintain their quality even when heavily cropped, offering more flexibility in post-processing. A six-element lens would also slightly improve image quality, with each element designed to correct various aberrations and distortions, resulting in clearer and more accurate photos, enough to delight people bombarding social media with their heads.

iPhone expected for September 2025

As for the iPhone 17, they are expected to launch in September 2025, more than a year from now. Rumors about the next two generations of iPhones always start quite early, as Apple develops and prototypes its products well before their release. The most important element would be an under-screen Face ID, as well as an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Slim. By then, we will be treated to the iPhone 16 with new screen sizes for the “Pro” and a significantly larger battery.
