Who gets the honorary Oscar?

The so-called honorary oscars are traditionally awarded in a separate ceremony in advance of the actual Oscar ceremony. The current award winners, the directors David Lynch („Mulholland Drive“), Lina Wertmüller (“Seven Beauties”) and the actor Wes Studi (“Who dances with the wolf”) were honored at the eleventh Governors Awards on October 27, 2019. The American actress and film producer received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award Geena Davis (“Mr. Leary’s Travels”).

Which German film was nominated for the Oscars?

One could not hope for an Oscar for a German feature film this year. “Systemsprenger” by Nora Fingscheidt received an award at the Berlinale, but did not make it onto the shortlist for the best foreign language film.

At least one German co-production was in the running for the coveted trophy: The documentary “The Cave” by the Syrian-born director Feras Fayyad has been nominated for an Academy Award in the “Best Documentary” category. He was beaten by “American Factory”, the production debut of the Obamas.
