US automaker General Motors is recalling all Chevrolet Bolt models worldwide. There is a manufacturing defect in the battery of the electric car, which can cause a fire.
The problem came to light in the autumn of last year after several cars had caught fire. According to General Motors, the mistake was made in a South Korean factory of battery maker LG.
Recall Extended
A recall of some of the Bolts was already announced in November. That promotion was extended last month to all models older than 2019.
Now General Motors has decided to recall all younger Bolts as well. The cause is a new fire in a car in the American state of Arizona. Its battery was probably not made in South Korea but in a factory in the United States.
1.5 billion euros
The recall now covers a total of more than 140,000 cars. The batteries are replaced at the expense of General Motors. The company is allocating about 1.8 billion dollars, or 1.5 billion euros.
