All doors at Schiphol open again, still very busy

According to a spokesperson, it is still very busy, but not so much that this intervention is necessary.

flow of passengers

Schiphol states that the holiday season causes more crowds, which can also increase waiting times. In addition, various airlines, but also other services such as security guards, suffer from staff shortages due to, among other things, illness.

King’s Day Celebrations

It is not only travelers who cause crowds at Schiphol. King’s Day celebrations who use the train and bus station as a transfer also cause extra crowds at Schiphol Plaza.

Chaos arose at Schiphol last Saturday due to a wild strike by KLM baggage handlers. As a result, many flights could not depart and the departure halls were full. Schiphol closed its doors at a certain point. The exits from the A4 motorway were also closed for some time.

Left luggage

As a result of that chaos, many travelers had no access to their luggage. KLM says it has almost solved that. Most passengers have now received their bags, a spokeswoman said. The airline still has its hands full with the suitcases of people who eventually stopped flying and returned home.

Those suitcases all have to be transported to a home address from Schiphol. “That’s still a job,” said the spokeswoman. All suitcases that had to be sent after travelers who flew intercontinental are now on their way. For travelers within Europe, the last remnants are quickly disposed of.

Also in terms of flights, everything is back in order. On Tuesday, a few transfer flights had to be routed via other airports, but that is no longer necessary. There are also hardly any delays on intercontinental flights.
