The number of new infections, hospital admissions and deaths remain at the same (high) level. In the week of 15 to 21 April, an average of 3,622 new infections were diagnosed every day. This is evident from the preliminary figures from health institute Sciensano on Sunday morning.

From April 18 to April 24, an average of 234.1 COVID patients were admitted to the hospital daily, about the same number as in the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic, 69,034 people have been hospitalized.
Currently, 2,853 COVID patients are in hospital. That is a decrease of 2 percent compared to a week earlier. There are still 875 people in the intensive care units, a decrease of 5 percent.
The average number of new infections decreased by 1 percent to 3,622. The positivity ratio rose slightly to 9.8 percent. The reproduction number is stuck at 0.98. A number above 1 indicates that the corona epidemic is gaining momentum.
In the week of 15 to 21 April, an average of 38.9 deaths occurred every day. That is about the same number as a week earlier. 23,990 people have already died in our country from COVID-19.
2,608,673 Belgians have now received at least one dose of a corona vaccine. That accounts for 28.4 percent of the adult population. 746,704 people have also received a second shot, or 8.1 percent of the adult population. blg
