The AVROTROS television program EenVandaag paid a visit to the Franciscus Gasthuis: ‘The second wave ensures that’ the water is on the lips’ of the employees of the hospital.
The patients pour in, all the beds are now full. The emergency room even had to close for a while. “The next two weeks are crucial.”
Marjolein Tasche, chairman of the board of Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland, calls the situation for the employees “very intensive, it is incredibly busy”.
Patients have been transferred to all corners of the country. The biggest problem is having enough staff available, because eleven IC employees are now also ill.
And there are currently still around 50 corona patients in the special corona wards of the Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland or in isolation in the ICU. A number of them are in very bad shape.
Tasche expects the number of corona patients in hospitals to double in the next two weeks.
If the partial lockdown turns out not to have a sufficient effect, Marjolein Tasche sees ‘us falling into a dramatic scenario’.
