In Bulgaria, the start of the “Night of the Museums” will be given at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 at the National History Museum.
3000 museums from Europe will join today in the night of the museums. The participants are a quarter more than last year. Of the 47 countries in the Council of Europe, 39 participate in it. The British and Russian museums will have a more prominent presence this year. Museums from the Baltic countries also have an active presence.
In Bulgaria, the start of the “Night of the Museums” will be given at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 at the National History Museum.
The celebration at NIM will be opened by Benedict Contamen – director of the French Cultural Institute. The initiator of the event is France, which will join the initiative with 1,300 museums.
In NIM there will be several expositions, a review of costumes from the First and Second Bulgarian states, from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The Bulgarian feature films “Knight without armor”, “Exams at any time” and “Hedgehogs are born without spines” will be screened, the Standard News agency reported.
Many gifts and tasty snacks will be offered in the park of the museum, there will also be other surprises from Nestle, Vitosha Municipality, SD Catering, National Geographic and many others. And for all this – the entrance is free, as in all museums in the “Night of the Museums”.
This year the initiative will be dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the creation of the Sculpture Park of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Cultural Institute. The special guest of the event will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov.
The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the courtesy of the Sofia Brass Orchestra. A rich musical program has been selected and entertainment has been prepared for the little ones, the culmination of which will be the children’s drawing competition on the theme “The sculptural work that I like the most”.
Visitors will be able to spend pleasant hours in the park of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the garden of the State Cultural Institute and in the “Mission” gallery. The event is scheduled to take place between 4 and 9 p.m.
The National Art Gallery will also open its doors to the masterpieces of Zahari Zograf, Vladimir Dimitrov – Master, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Dechko Uzunov… Especially for this night, the gallery’s specialists will present in one of the halls long-undisplayed examples of Bulgarian painting from the first half of 20 c. It will be possible to see – the exhibition of illustrations by Yasen Gyuzelev, as well as the photo exhibition “In the Studio” by Zafer Galibov – artistic erotic photography. From 10:30 p.m. there will be a musical-theatre performance “Ancient Music from the Renaissance” with dances, sonnets and excerpts from Shakespeare, with the youth presence of students from Theater College “Lyuben Grois”, Sofia.
On the facade of the palace, a multimedia virtual walk will present the permanent expositions of the gallery – the icons from the crypt of the Temple-monument “St. Al. Nevsky”, the painting and sculpture in the Palace, the best of the houses – museums of Vera Nedkova, Nikola Tanev and Ivan Lazarov. For the first time in the Crypt, the last addition to the gallery’s collection will be shown to the public – the icon “The Virgin with Child and Saints” by Zahari Zograf.
The wealth of the Bulgarian icon awaits in the crypt of the Temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevsky”. Spectators will have the unique opportunity to see 14 masterpieces restored with the support of the Leventis Foundation. Among them is the 11th century “Christ Pantocrator” – one of the oldest painted icons not only in Bulgaria, but also in the Balkans.
On the Night of the Museums, the entrance for visitors to the National Art Gallery is free from 18.00 to 24.00 hours and to the Crypt of the “Alexander Nevsky” memorial temple from 18.00 to 20.00 hours.
At 6:00 p.m., the exhibition “I Wrote… Bulgarian Cyrillic Epigraphy” will be opened at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the BAS, and at 6:30 p.m. there will be an award ceremony for the winners of the National Film Festival “Cultural Heritage”, organized by the International Foundation “Peter Detev” and NAIM at BAS.
The National Museum of Military History hosts popular pop artists – Yordanka Hristova, Rositsa Kirilova, vocal group “Tram No. 5”, formation “Vakali” and the duet Dimitar Kolev – Nazar and Nino Gambo Neishvili. The concert “To the Bulgarian Army with Love” starts at 7:00 p.m.
A special bus to the museum leaves at 6 pm from the National Art Gallery.
The Sredets Gallery of the Ministry of Culture will participate in the exhibition “Biological Balance” by the artist Zahari Kamenov. For this purpose, the prestigious gallery on Blvd. “Al. Stamboliyski” No. 17 in Sofia will have extended working hours and will welcome visitors until 21:00 on May 15 of this year.
In the National Gallery of Foreign Art from 6:00 p.m. there will be a concert by the Percussion Ensemble “3+3” at NMU, from 8:00 p.m. – a traditional concert of the Sofia Brass Orchestra of the Sofia Municipality and from 10:00 p.m. – Projection on the facade of works by the German artist Felix von Heidel with light effects and musical arrangement.

The exhibitions “The Other Eye – Lachezar Boyadzhiev: Artist in the Depot”, Flavio Bonetti – “Natural History” and Bogdan Alexandrov – “Noise. Portraits of a loved one’.
