All about the 2024 Leagues Cup: where to watch, when the matches are and which teams are playing

After winning the Copa América, Lionel Messi is looking to lift the 2024 Leagues Cup for the second consecutive year. The Argentine’s team, Inter Miami FC, was champion in the 2023 edition of the cup that brings together the two major leagues in North America, and although he has not had such a spectacular year in Major League Soccer (MLS), he could lead the Florida team to victory again.

This is the fourth edition of the championship that will determine the three teams that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, with third and second place earning automatic passage, while the champion secures its spot in the round of 16 of the continental tournament. The cup is contested between teams from Major League Soccer (which includes teams from the United States and Canada) and Mexico’s Liga MX. It began with 47 clubs, who have already played in the group stage, and now there are 32 teams that will seek to reach the final and become the best squad in North America this year. Here are all the key facts about the tournament.

When is the 2024 Leagues Cup?

The 2024 Leagues Cup kicked off on July 26 with the group stage, and will conclude on August 25. Here are the dates for each stage:

  • Round of 32: August 7-9, 2024
  • Round of 16: 12 and 13 August 2024
  • Quarterfinals: August 16, 2024
  • Semi-finals: August 8, 2024
  • Final: August 25, 2024

Stadiums

All Leagues Cup matches will be played in stadiums in the United States and Canada, so Mexican teams always play away from home. In the case of the top four Liga MX teams (América, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tigres UANL), they were granted the privilege of being designated as home teams in some rounds, with a stadium assigned to each.

Club América will play at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego through the semifinals, if they make it to the semifinals. Monterrey will play in Texas at Q2 Stadium in Austin through the quarterfinals. Club Deportivo Guadalajara was given Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the round of 32 and Tigres UANL was given Shell Energy Stadium in Houston only during the group stage.

Where to watch the Leagues Cup 2024?

Leagues Cup 2024 matches will be streamed worldwide on Apple TV. Most will be available through Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass, which is available in more than 100 countries and provides full access to Major League Soccer matches. Others will be streamed for free on the same platform.
