All about ‘Ripley’, the new Netflix series that adapts the novel ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’

It’s now on Netflix, available to everyone, Ripley, your new great home entertainment bet. It is a series of eight episodes (lasting from 44 minutes to 76 minutes in the eighth) that adapts the novel The talent of Mr. Ripleyby Patricia Highsmith, after her time on the big screen (1999 with Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow).

Andrew Scottwhich has been part of the Prime Video series Fleabagand more recently he has starred in the film Unknown, interpreta al popular Tom Ripley. For her part, Dakota Fanning gets into the shoes of Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn does the same with Dickie Greenleaf. The cast also includes Eliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi and Margherita Buy along with John Malkovich, Kenneth Lonergan and Ann Cusack.

Unlike the aesthetics of the nineties feature film, with lights and colors, this new television product is committed to black and white reminiscent of noir classics. This decision could respond to the creativity of the director, Steven Zaillian (creator of the series The night ofscreenwriter of films like Schindler’s List o Mission Impossibleand director of All the king’s men), to highlight the soul of psychological thriller. In this way, as the protagonist has commented, the main character is given deep and opposing layers.

Ripley is a co-production of Showtime and Endemol Shine North America in association with Entertainment 360 and Filmrights. Executive produced by Steven Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel (Diogenes), with Scott as series producer. Steven Zaillian is the screenwriter.

Synopsis

New York, early 60s. Tom Ripley, a down-on-his-luck scammer, is hired by a millionaire to go to Italy and convince his errant son to come home. After accepting the job, Tom enters a complex world of deception, fraud and murder.
