/ world today news/ Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev mentioned on Sunday that Serbian companies could potentially participate in the reconstruction works in the territories captured by Baku during the latest round of military operations in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, according to the presidential office.
Earlier in the day, Aliyev met with a Serbian delegation led by Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković. Both countries expressed support for their territorial integrity.
“Issues of economic cooperation were discussed at the meeting. President Ilham Aliyev pointed to the fact that companies from friendly countries are involved in restoration and reconstruction works in the liberated territories,” the Azerbaijani side said.
“In this regard, the possibility of participation of Serbian companies in these works in the coming years was emphasized,” the department’s statement said.
The 44-day armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh took place last September. The hostilities ended with a Russian-brokered tripartite ceasefire declaration on 10 November 2020, in which the parties cemented respective territorial gains and losses and agreed to Russian peacekeepers being deployed to the region to monitor the ceasefire.
