Yesterday, Friday, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation hosted Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria, where he delivered a lecture entitled “The Religious Field: Its Limits, Discourses, and Contradictions.” Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees, welcomed the great thinker who won the award. Sultan bin Ali Al Owais Cultural in the field of human and future studies.
Al-Jassem added that Ahmed Zaid was preoccupied with renewing religious discourse and issues of the middle class by presenting a conscious reading of the concept of social capital. His encyclopedic writing style appears in his discussion of family and child issues, violence and socialization, in addition to criticizing the modernist project and raising some social issues associated with it.
The evening was attended by a group of intellectuals, including Dr. Fatima Al-Sayegh, a member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Moza Ghobash, the poet Ali Al-Shaali, the storyteller Ali Al-Abdan, and other cultural and media personalities.
Dr. Ahmed Zayed divided his lecture “The Religious Field” into three sections: the limits of this field, its discourses and outputs, and the contradictions of this discourse. The field is renewed according to the era in which it is active, but it does not change its content, but rather changes its form and method. At the end of the evening, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim thanked the thinker Ahmed Zayed, and presented him with a commemorative shield in the name of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation. It is noteworthy that Ahmed Zayed reconsidered the concept of rural sociology, by focusing light on the countryside as a distinct field of study. He authentically combined historical research with field research. In addition, his sociological writing targeted a wide range of readers, from the ordinary reader to the specialized writer and researcher, which gave his works great importance in enriching the Arab library.
Ahmed Zayed won a number of prestigious awards such as: The State Award for Scientific Excellence (Social Sciences) in 2004. The State Appreciation Award in Social Sciences in 2007. Cairo University Award for Excellence in Social Sciences in 2011. He has dozens of important books.
