Alitalia, to save Ita’s take-off, the government plays the ticket fund card

Unpaid fourteenth

The old company trudges. Few flights, little cash at the cash desk, salary late paychecks by now physiological. For the third consecutive month in June there is a delay in payments. The three commissioners managed to pay at least their salaries on time on Friday 25 June, but the employees did not receive the fourteenth. It is expected to be disbursed in early July, depending on when the commissioners will have the necessary liquidity with the funds allocated by the government.

Alliance, the choice between Lufthansa and Delta postponed

The choice of the alliance, between the Delta Air Lines-led hub, with Air France-KLM in Europe, or Lufthansa, which includes United in the United States, is also postponed. The CEO Fabio Lazzerini had announced months ago that the choice of partner would be made at the end of June. But the uncertainty about the timing of take-off and what Ita will be like (it is not known how many planes it will have, 47 in the latest version of the plan, and which routes it will take) make decisions slip.

Altavilla new president

This dossier will be handled personally by the new executive president of Ita, Alfredo Altavilla, indicated by the Mef on 17 June and already appointed, “it will guarantee a precious executive contribution to the development of the company, with particular reference to strategy, finance and resources. human beings, ”said the Mef. Altavilla retains his previous positions, remains president of Recordati and senior advisor of CVC Capital Partners.

Fleet cuts and redundancies

There remains a tight reserve on what will be the true consistency of the fleet and employees of Ita. The company will be greatly reduced compared to the Alitalia commissioner. The latest known version of the plan calls for 47 passenger aircraft to take off, half of the fleet which in January consisted of over 95 aircraft. With this configuration, the employees would be 3,000-3,500, compared to over 10 thousand today. Lazzerini’s plan foresaw that from the second year, 202, the fleet would increase to about 80 aircraft and consequently the staff would also grow. As there has been a time shift, it remains to be seen how this will affect the latest version of the plan that Brussels must authorize.

Tenders to sell maintenance and handling

The flight activities will pass directly from Alitalia to Ita, with a direct negotiation. Ita will have to buy them, but without a tender. Instead, there will be a tender to sell maintenance activities and airport services (handling). Then a stew. According to the preliminary agreements with the EU, Ita will be able to participate in tenders and have the majority of handling services. For maintenance, the majority must be from third parties. There are contacts to sell maintenance to the Atitech company chaired by Antonio Lettieri.
