Airbus would have the best credentials to replace the current fleet of Airbus A319s, A320s and A321s with the A320neo series. According to the newspaper, ITA has 4.5 billion euros ready to attract more than eighty devices through leasing companies.
Boeing also seems to be looking forward to an order. Alitalia is currently deploying the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 on long-haul flights, and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner appears to be the prime candidate to replace both types. The Italian aviation industry is making a significant contribution to the construction of the 787, supplying fuselage sections and elevators for the type.
The intention is that ITA will start in October, and in fact take over the activities of Alitalia, which has been in trouble for years.
