The new Alitalia takes off on a Friday evening. At least from a formal point of view. The four ministers responsible for the dossier – Economy, Transport, Economic Development, Labor – signed the decree establishing the newco, a passage that formalizes the appointment of the top management: the managing director Fabio Maria Lazzerini and the president Francesco Caio. The company is called Alitalia ITA, acronym for Italy Air Transport.

In a note, the Ministry of Economy also announced the members of the Board of Directors, confirming the anticipations of the day before yesterday: the directors are Alessandra Fratini (lawyer specialized in EU law), Cristina Girelli (formerly in Alitalia now in Air Italy, the former Meridiana which ended in liquidation last February), Simonetta Giordani (ex Autostrade), Lelio Fornabaio (accountant), Silvio Martuccelli (lawyer and professor of Civil Law at Luiss), Frances Ouseley (former number one of easyJet Italy and before that executive of Alitalia) and Angelo Piazza (former magistrate of the Tar).

The professionalit
A technical board, which initially had to be composed of five members and then increased to seven to bring together the various political souls of the government. Among the councilors there are those who will help convince the EU of the goodness of the project (for example Alessandra Fratini) and those who will be able to help in the sector distorted by Covid (the case of Frances Ouseley). The board of statutory auditors made up of Paolo Maria Ciabattoni, Giovanni Naccarato, Marina Scandurra, Gianfranco Buschini and Serena Gatteschi.

And ministers
We lay the foundations for the relaunch of Italian air transport through the choice of top-level managers able to develop and implement a solid and sustainable industrial plan, explains Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri in the note. This is a large industrial operation at the service of the country, in support of the competitiveness of businesses and for the relaunch of Italian tourism, adds Minister Paola De Micheli (Transport). The economic crisis caused by the pandemic allows us today to think about a concrete relaunch of our national airline, says Minister Stefano Patuanelli (Economic Development). We are facing a challenge that must be won in order to equip the country with a vector that enhances professional skills and skills, echoes Minister Nunzia Catalfo (Labor).

The managers
Lazzerini and Caio will choose the government team in the coming days. Given the situation in the sector, it is almost a war council. The top management will have to design the new company taking into consideration the watchful eye of the European Commission which will ask for the maximum discontinuity between the newco and the company in extraordinary administration whose revenues in the first nine months of this year due to the coronavirus have collapsed by 1.7 billion euros.

The trade unions
It was time for the constitution decree to arrive: from this moment a new era begins and we must not go wrong starting from the elaboration of an ambitious industrial plan, which we hope to know as soon as possible, declares Salvatore Pellecchia, general secretary of Fit-Cisl . The signing of the decree and the appointments of the Board of Directors, which also express the competences of the sector, are good, but concern remains for the complexity of the situation and for the almost 7,000 workers on layoffs, recalls the national secretary of Filt CGIL Fabrizio Cuscito. There is a need for a permanent forum for discussion between interested ministries and trade union organizations, asks Cuscito. Finally a stalemate of months has been overcome, after the many strong requests we made to politics so that the newco was established, say the general secretary of Uiltrasporti, Claudio Tarlazzi, and the national secretary, Ivan Viglietti.
