Winner of five singles titles and quarter-finalist at Roland Garros in 2015, Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 96), 29, has not played since her second round defeat at the WTA 250 in Linz on February 10.
“We could consider surgery. A hernia, it can be operated, but there is no guarantee. It’s a double hernia. We can’t say that there is a big inflammation, but a hernia , it’s a protrusion. During certain movements, it pushes on nerves, which causes pain. Doctors have already tried a lot of things, but without real success so far. You have to be patient. Alison, however, keeps her spirits up. She is taking physical preparation classes to keep herself busy. She has asked for a protected classification at the WTA. In an ideal world, she hopes to be able to play again from September 11. Fingers crossed.
