Alingsås HK star Kajsa Lindberg Blohm shone in Saturday’s game against Karlskrona and scored twelve goals in the team’s emphatic win. But despite her good play, the tone of the game changed dramatically.

What seemed like a promising day for her suddenly turned into a nightmare.

Landing on the neck: “Wants to know how the match went”

The match came to an abrupt end when Lindberg shot Blohm and landed miserably, causing concerns of a serious neck injury. Managers and teammates acted quickly to give her the care she needed: She was carried on a stretcher and her neck was stabilized.

While she was waiting for the ambulance, she wanted to know how the match went. Sporting director Christer Mårtensson ran up to check the result and report back, but he emphasizes that the focus was entirely on his well-being.

– She wanted to know how the game went when she was lying there on the row in the corridor. I ran up and checked and reported what he said. But that will be secondary, says Mårtensson.

Providing reassuring information: No serious injuries

The next day, encouraging news came from Mårtensson: The X-ray showed no skeletal damage, but Lindberg Blohm is still stiff and shaken. On Sunday, the day after the incident, she was doing well with the condition.

– It was scary, you can’t add much. We had good people on site, and even if we had to wait a bit for the ambulance, there were experienced people in the hall who helped, he says.

When Kajsa was injured, the focus became completely on her.

– Yes, you forget the game completely. We were worried about the neck that took the hit, says Mårtensson.

Earlier in the game, the team also suffered a disaster when Josefin Ewerman was carried off the field with a suspected cruciate ligament injury.

Alingsås won the final game 29-15.
