Alicja Majewska talked about her mother’s illness
In a conversation with Mariusz Szczygieł, the artist confessed that she had been taking care of her seriously ill mother for many years. My mother lived with me for twelve years. After a severe stroke and aphasia” – she began. “Until I was 84, I ran, flew, I brought these dumplings, borscht, I always had tomato soup in the fridge. Mom lived in Milanówek. And then a very severe stroke. There was of course a period of rehabilitation, my mother was in Wrocław at the time, visiting her sister, but at some point I decided to take her to Milanówek for a trial period.” she explained.
When mom got sick, she could be in my bedroom, there was a room for a nanny next door. Mom couldn’t walk after aphasia, we would put her in a chair, in an armchair, she would eat dinner with us. I could do that.
Agata Rubik organized a Q&A. She revealed whether she had her breasts enlarged!
Alicja Majewska confessed that the hardest thing for her was not being able to communicate with her mother. “The hardest thing is not being able to communicate. With awareness, because aphasia is when the mind works the same way, and this inability to express oneself”.
It turned out that the singer’s mother did not speak for the first year after the stroke.[…] She made no sound, no articulation. Then came the »a« and substitutes, for my mother it was »summer, summer«, but it meant nothing. This »summer« was expressed with different intentions. Mom was often nervous and then it was like this: »side, side, side, side!« But she had a lot of humility. It’s total dependence on the environment.”
Devastated Małgorzata Rozenek reported on her son’s move: “I’ve been crying since yesterday NON-STOP”
Alicja Majewska also confessed that Mom’s illness changed her:
I had the opportunity, due to my mother’s illness, to convey my feelings to her. It showed me a different self. One that we don’t know in any situation, we don’t know how we will behave until we are tested. It worked because I had the opportunity for space, I could do rehearsals upstairs and live normally.
She also added that “the most difficult thing is helplessness when our loved one cannot express emotions”:
Mom had her own room with photos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but in the evening a healthy person goes upstairs, at any moment turns off the light or turns on the TV or has a drink of water, and mom… You leave a person who is completely dependent on you. And you have to be very sensitive to their needs.
