– Alicia Vikander is done as Lara Croft

Information about a possible sequel to the Tomb Raider film from 2018 has been delayed, and this week it became known that the rights to the project have now been taken away from the film company MGM.

The company followed suit The Wrap were given a deadline of May this year to start production of the sequel, which they were unable to live up to. Thus, the film rights to the Tomb Raider series have now been thrown out in a bidding round, where several major production companies have shown interest.

We will most likely not see more of Vikander in this role.

Rumors have it that no matter who ends up with the rights, it will then be a matter of a new “reboot” of the film series – thus actress Alicia Vikander is most likely finished in the role of Lara Croft.

This comes just weeks after the Swedish actor commented that she was ready for a possible sequelbut that the decision about where and when was ultimately “out of her hands”.

We liked Vikander in the role, and had the following to say about the 2018 film i our review:

– Roar Uthaug and especially Alicia Wikander both make a good effort, and the original material has been processed to create a fairly coherent story that has both feet firmly planted in the ground. […] This is not art, it is solid craftsmanship, wrote Petter Lønningen at the time.
