Alice Cooper has announced his brand new studio album. Named after the city where the original Alice Cooper group achieved its first success, ‘Detroit Stories’ is a modern tribute to the toughest and craziest rock’ n roll scene that ever existed.
In 1970, young producer Bob Ezrin walked into a farm on the outskirts of Detroit to work with the Alice Cooper group. Alice and his band had just fled flower power Los Angeles because they were the opposite of the hippie peace and love ideal. The dark band had moved into Cooper’s hometown, where a legendary rock scene was slowly emerging.
Ezrin drilled the band 10 hours a day to define their signature sound. Whenever a song was successful, inmates in the hospital cheered for the criminally insane across the street, and the classic Alice Cooper sound was born.
“Los Angeles had its sound with The Doors, Love and Buffalo Springfield,” zegt Cooper, “San Francisco had the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. New York had The Rascals and The Velvet Underground. But Detroit was the birthplace of angry hard rock. After not fitting in anywhere in the US (musically or image wise) Detroit was the only place that recognized the Alice Cooper guitar driven, hard rock sound and our crazy stage show. Detroit was a haven for the outcasts. And when they found out I was born in East Detroit… we were home.”
50 years later, Alice and Ezrin gathered some legendary Detroit musicians in a studio to record ‘Detroit Stories’. Once the 2019 ‘Breadcrumbs’ EP has mapped the path to the city, Detroit Stories drives like a muscle car right through Woodward Ave.
The DVD and Blu-ray contain the concert recording of ‘A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia Paris’ which will be available on film for the first time. With the whole live culture on a halt due to COVID-19, Alice Cooper felt the need to share one of his latest shows with his fans and can’t wait to hit the road again. Detroit Stories will be released on February 26, 2021, via earMUSIC.
