The Alicante City Council takes to the next Governing Board the tender for two new contracts with an investment of 3.1 million euros for the supply with installation of lights in the neighborhoods of Benalúa, Casco Antiguo-Raval Roig, sports areas and the Garachico industrial park, divided into four lots, and the improvement of the energy efficiency of the Santa Bárbara Castle within the Alicante Sustainable Energy Action Plan.
In this way, with the first contract, the call for the renovation of the interior lighting of the Castle of Santa Bárbara will be auctioned with a budget of 787,000 euros. This investment will make it possible to reinforce the cultural and tourist strategy with new lighting, reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as 50 percent electricity consumption and light pollution.
These works in the Castle are promoted in coordination with the Public Lighting and Tourism services, to improve the energy efficiency of the lighting throughout the interior of the fortress, which is now uneven and generates light pollution, managing to change it to LED technology, and renewing the wiring and its installation that has deteriorated over time.
The mayor of Infrastructures, José Ramón González has highlighted that this investment “brings added value to our Castle since it is a tourist reference to which thousands of tourists and citizens come, allowing in turn to carry out night-time tourist activities, as a visitor’s claim. to the city or to the people of Alicante “.
The investment is part of the project co-financed in the integrated sustainable urban development strategy EDUSI of Alicante “Area las Cigarreras” and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the operational program for sustainable growth for the 2014-2020 programming ‘A way to make Europe ‘, whose mission is the recovery and revitalization of an important urban area in Las Cigarreras.
Efficiency improvement in neighborhoods and the Garachico industrial estate
In turn, the Governing Board plans to approve the tender for the call to contract the supply with the installation of lights to improve the energy efficiency of public lighting in different areas and facilities of the city: Benalúa, Casco Antiguo-Raval Roig , sports areas and the Garachico Industrial Park, divided into four lots, with a total budget of more than 2.3 million euros.
The Alicante City Council, as it has been doing for several years, has a strategy to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and light pollution through intervention in street lighting and municipal offices, as is the object of these two contracts that go out to tender, as well as other lines of intervention that are gradually being tendered, all within the scope of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan of the Municipality 2014-2020.
González explained that the investments made to carry out this necessary renovation of the lighting in more neighborhoods of Alicante and the city are more than eight million euros since with it “it will be possible to reduce electricity consumption by up to 50 percent and the cost of electricity that the City supports on a monthly basis, which is also allowing us to meet the objectives of sustainable development “.
The tender for the improvement of energy efficiency has been divided into four lots, the first for the Benalúa neighborhood with a budget of 651,848 euros, Lot 2 aimed at changing the lights of the Old Town-Raval Roig with 689,928 euros, the Lot 3 in the Sports Areas in Phase II of the municipality of Alicante with an investment of one million euros, and finally Lot 4 of the lighting of the Garachico Industrial Park, with 47,190 euros.
For his part, José Ramón González has stressed that one of the improvements that are implemented is that “all the luminaires have a point-to-point remote management system for their regulation and control in a telematic way, which will allow to regulate the lighting to certain hours and thus reduce the power of the lights, obtaining greater energy savings and better maintenance in the city. “
