Alica Schmidt on the Olympics, doping, Instagram, 400 meters

Alica Schmidt is a well-known name in German athletics – but less because of her performance on the tartan track and more because of her appearance.

Since the 22-year-old 400-meter runner was voted “World’s Sexiest Athlete” by a US magazine, her Instagram profile has exploded. She now has a whopping 1.6 million followers.

She makes no secret of the fact that she can earn good money with it. In terms of sport, however, the Berliner is currently struggling to take part in the Olympic Games. After a long break from injury, she played her second competition of the Olympic season at a meeting in Halle / Saale on Friday evening.

She needed 53.88 seconds for the stadium round and landed well behind the competition. In order to jump on the Tokyo train and qualify for the 4X400 meter relay, Schmidt still has to improve a lot in the remaining races.

Schmidt does not believe in jumping to the top of the world

That she will be able to advance into world class one day – the athlete from SSC Berlin has already written off this goal. “I can honestly say that no matter how hard I train, I pretty much probably won’t run under 50 seconds in my life,” she said Sky. “That is not feasible, these are incredibly fast times.”

With a best time of 52.21 seconds, which she ran at the German championships last year, Schmidt is currently in the extended circle of the German 400-meter top.

The native of Worms has concerns about possible doping activities of the international competition. “Fortunately, in Germany we are tested a lot and have very strict doping rules. Unfortunately, that’s not the case in every country. It’s a shame because you don’t know what the other athletes are using.”

The best example: Salwa Eid Naser from Bahrain won the 2019 World Championships in Doha in 48.14 seconds – light years away from Schmidt’s times. The native Nigerian had missed a doping test three times – without having been banned for it so far.
