Algerian Singer Souad Massi and Tunisian Artist Nessrine Jabeur to Perform at Carthage International Festival 2023

Algerian singer Souad Massi will perform on the evening of August 6, 2023 on the stage of the Carthage amphitheater as part of the 57th edition of the Carthage International Festival (FIC – July 14-August 19, 2023). The evening will also be marked by the participation in the second part of a young artist who also has a special attachment to the guitar, in this case the Tunisian Nessrine Jabeur.

Souad Massi travels the world through committed music and through which she pays homage to humanity, noble values, peace, tolerance and love. The singer born in Algiers in 1972 and who has lived in France for years began her career in the Kabyle group “Atakor”.

From the 90s, she specialized in rock music with committed lyrics. After a series of death threats, Souad Massi left his native country in 1999 and began to be known around the world. In the 2000s, the artist sang in duet with Marc Lavoine and Florant Pagnny and signed a duet with Francis Cabrel in 2010.

Souad Massi thus mixes all musical styles in his repertoire from folk-rock, popular Algerian, Arab-Andalusian music to songs with texts.

Armed with her favorite instrument, her guitar, she hums a nostalgic air while singing “Alech ya donia” revealing the depths of great pain. An ode to tolerance that Souad Massi set to music, addressing the oppressed Arab peoples, suffering from the dictatorship.

A colorful, castling, soft voice, the singer continues title after title, always highlighting the harshness of life, loneliness, an existential crisis… like “Ana galbi thab”, “rani aycha kelli fi mana” . The rhythm of his concerts go crescendo, frenetic, colorful music, harmonious performances of percussion performed by the musicians who amaze the spectators.

His latest album “Sequana” (released in October 2022) is nominated in the “World music album” category at “Les Victoires du Jazz 2023” whose 21st edition is held at the beginning of this month of July.

Guitarist, singer and songwriter, Nessrine Jabeur knew how to clear; after his studies at the Higher Institute of Music of Tunis (ISMT) a path in the world of contemporary hybrid music and showed great talent as a performer with vocal abilities at all times. In 2018, her show “Helma” received the second prize (Silver Tanit), as part of the official competition of the Musical Days of Carthage (JMC). Nessrine Jabeur sings in Arabic, French or English and accompanies herself on the guitar. His inspiration finds its source in traditional Tunisian music as well as in jazz, Turkish music, or the blues, to finally invent music in his own way.

Endowed with a hushed voice, she takes part in several workshops and master-classes, notably those organized by the Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music, such as “Couleurs Jazz” with Faouzi Chkili. During the years 2013 and 2014 she performed alongside established artists such as Zied Gharsa, Mohamed Ali Kammoun and Mounir Troudi.
