Algeciras: National Issues, Railway Concerns, and Post-Brexit Challenges

algeciras

Over the past few days we have had the opportunity to raise important issues of national importance and that directly concern the Campo de Gibraltar, the infrastructures, the railway, the Gibraltar dispute and the post-Brexit agreement or security in the region with the special zone singularity. Issues to which many other issues can be added, industrial development, job creation or the need for investment that makes it attractive for companies to settle here.

The candidate for the Senate for the province of Cádiz, José Ignacio Landaluce, has gone through the program and has spoken about the strike. “Algeciras is the one that has fallen the most in the latest data that we have known, Algeciras is the city that has the most facilities to train our unemployed. But as long as we have an unemployed we will have a problem.”

Asked about the vindication of the railway and the obsolete machines that will be its workhorse in the event that the Popular Party governs, Landaluce said that “it is something that I discussed with Núñez Feijóo here in Algeciras, we also discussed it in the work meeting we had with the companies at the headquarters of the Maritime Station and yesterday we talked about it with Cuca Gamarra. Not only are the trains old, it’s that the tracks are no longer maintained”.

We have asked him about the Gibraltar dispute and the post-Brexit moment that we are experiencing and the fear of some groups in the face of a possible arrival of the right wing in the government of Spain. “Fears, with this government that has been negotiating on the sly and we don’t know what. We want the best possible neighborliness with the Gibraltarians, we wish them no harm, but we also don’t want their good to be a detriment to this side of the fence. We we want a present and a future in the best possible neighborhood”.

The popular candidate for the Senate said that the Campo de Gibraltar has to be a matter of State, “but not only of Spain, of the European Union. We need the railway, we need the Mediterranean Corridor, the Atlantic Corridor and the capacity that the region has We need communication with the rest of Europe.”

Landaluce has asked the Popular Party for a vote, “I ask for the vote because at the polls when you win is when the votes are counted; the polls show trends, but the polls do not win the elections. If you want Feijóo to govern, vote for Feijóo does not vote for intermediaries and thus we will avoid obstacles, inconveniences, let’s go vote if we want Spain to pass from sanchismo
