Algarve exceeds 1000 accumulated cases of Covid-19

This Friday, August 21st, the Algarve surpassed the accumulated 1000 cases of Covid-19. Today, there are 11 new people infected in the region, bringing the total to 1007 since the beginning of the pandemic.

These are the most recent data released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) in its epidemiological bulletin.

In Alentejo, there are now 5 new cases, bringing the cumulative total to 868. In both regions, there were no deaths today.

At the national level, the number of new cases was 219, lower than yesterday, when there were 291. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 55,211 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Portugal.

According to DGS, there are 209 more recovered, which means that 40,473 people have already overcome the disease.

With regard to deaths, there were four more, three in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and another in the North. Across the country, since the beginning of the pandemic, 1792 people have died.

By regions, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley continue to be the main contagion focus, registering 125 new cases today. The cumulative total in this region is now 28,579 infected.

Next are the North (19,793, plus 63), Center (4,626, plus 6), Algarve (1007, plus 11), Alentejo (868, plus 5), Azores (192, plus 4) and Madeira (138, plus 3).

In hospitals across the country, 321 people are now hospitalized, 13 fewer than yesterday. The number of patients in intensive care has gone up, to 41 (plus 2).

As for contacts under surveillance, there are now 34,233, 189 less than yesterday.
