The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, has held a meeting in the last few hours with the new ambassador of the United Kingdom in Spain, Alex Ellis, in order to reform the collaboration between the two territories, encourage commercial relations and seek new investment opportunities for Galician and British companies.
The meeting was held within the framework of the La Toja Forum, and the Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, also participated. At the meeting, the representatives of the Xunta and the ambassador evaluated the economic exchanges between Galicia and the United Kingdom.
Rueda and Lorenzana have highlighted that the Galician government “has been working for years” to alleviate the effects of Brexit in the different economic sectors, especially in the fishing sector.
The president of the Xunta has highlighted that the regional administration carries out actions to promote “growing British tourism” to Galicia and the promotion of the Camino de Santiago in the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, in the first half of the year, exports to the United Kingdom increased by more than 43% compared to the same period last year, with the automotive and metalworking sectors being the two sectors with the most weight in these sales.
