He gip Valeria Campanile does not give discounts Franco Alfieri: yesterday, in fact, the judge for the preliminary investigations of Court of Salerno confirmed custody in prison for Franco Alfieri, rejecting the request of the defense panel – made up of lawyers Domenicoantonio D’Alessandro e Agostino De Caro – to mitigate the detention measure by transforming it into house arrest.
The accusation
The lawyers’ request came at the end of Alfieri’s interrogation which took place last Monday. The mayor and president of the Province he had ended up in prison the previous Thursday on charges of corruption and bid rigging for contracts related to public lighting in the Municipality of Capaccio Paestum.
The interrogation
Alfieri, in his interrogation, had defended himself from the objections of the Searchproviding his version of the facts which, in the end, did not convince the judge (the same one who signed the custody order) who therefore confirmed the precautionary measure in prison. The mayor-president’s defenders have already turned to the Review to request the annulment of the measure and, alternatively, house arrest. The hearing is scheduled between Next October 21st and 24th.
The decision
An important step will be Alfieri’s decision whether or not to resign from the positions of president of the Province and mayor of Capaccio Paestum before facing the judgment of the former Court of Freedom. His resignation, in fact, could be used by the lawyers to request the revocation of the measure, as their client can no longer pollute the evidence or repeat the crime.
