Alfa Romeo’s Future with New Electrical Architecture: Balancing Technology and Driver Focus

Alfa Romeo will come with a new electrical architecture from its parent company Stellantis in 2025 and use it on the new Giulia model. However, the head of the car company Jean Phillipe-Imparato assures that this will not affect the philosophy he promotes. According to him, Alfa should remain a driver’s car that does not distract from driving with excessive technologies.

“Of course I respect what, for example, Mercedes is doing with its digital technology, but our customers are not looking for a meter-wide infotainment screen in their cars or 200 digital assistance systems that can be turned on and off through them,” he said for Autocar Learned.

“We are developing our technology and you will see what we are working on already in 2025, when Alfa Romeo will be the first to deploy Stellantis Group’s brand new electronic architecture, the STLA Brain. But it won’t change how our cars appeal to our customers,” he added.

Indeed, Alfa Romeo’s customer survey should have indicated to management that its buyers wanted a telescoping – i.e. retractable – infotainment screen in their cars and a system that provided information about the vehicle, rather than useless distractions for the driver. According to Imparato, the way could be in an extended head-up display. “Sounds like something an Alpha should do.”

However, among other things, Alfa reportedly does not oppose the autonomous driving system. However, Imparato said that the driver will be able to decide before driving whether he wants to drive himself or to be driven.
