Alfa Romeo’s Future in F1: Potential Shift to Haas and Impact on Racing Series

In addition to the AlphaTauri, the name Alfa Romeo will most likely disappear from the grid next year.

At the end of August last year, Alfa Romeo announced that it would end its cooperation with the Sauber team at the end of 2023. As of 2019, Alfa Romeo has been the title sponsor of the Swiss team with a capital “T”. Most title sponsors attach their name to the team name. But that’s really where it ends, as virtually no one uses the official name.

But Alfa Romeo renamed the whole team, which we were used to with engines before – remember when Red Bull was powered by a TAG Heuer engine?

We will probably see Sauber at the start again next year. It makes no sense for the team to look for a replacement elsewhere, as it will already become Audi in 2026. The German car company gradually buys a majority stake and develops its own power unit.

To Haas or away?

We didn’t mention TAG Heuer by accident. Speculation began around Monaco that Alfa Romeo would switch to Ferrari’s second, and from 2026, sole customer – Haas.

It is rather unlikely that the Haas name will disappear like the Sauber name did. Alfa Romeo would rather name a Ferrari power unit. It makes less sense for it to become another titular sponsor – Haas already has one, their company is MoneyGram.

But a lot of time has passed since Monaco, we have also finished the last race of the season and there is no announcement.

According to RacingNews365 this is because negotiations between Alfa Romeo and Haas have been deadlocked in recent months.

One of the reasons may be the change in the situation in F1. Alfa Romeo envisions the cooperation and its financial framework similarly to what was the case with Sauber. But today F1 is different, it has more value and the teams are not afraid to use it in negotiations.

If Alfa Romeo ends up in F1, it will probably focus on other racing series – for example the WEC.
