La Luz de la Nevera, an art gallery located at the University of the Americas Puebla (UDLAP), hosted Alexis Manchia’s solo exhibition “Always black and white in my notebook” and Shin-Yuu Benítez’s immersive experience titled “The World from minotaur going to butterfly.”
The first work exhibited at the LDLN was the individual exhibition “always black and white in my notebook” by Alexis Manchia, a sixth semester Plastic Arts student at UDLAP. This exhibition focused on three important aspects: first, on the comics that the artist has enjoyed since childhood; Secondly, promotional ones such as funky punky; and the third aspect was about the fluidity of the lines of the American cinema cartoons of the 1930s.
Uniting all these elements, Alexis presented six pieces in his exhibition, including some sculptures called “art toys”, a video that he manipulated to create a different animation, and a mural inspired by one of his favorite songs. All this, added to the intervention that she carried out throughout the gallery, made viewers feel like they were inside a comic strip.
As the second exhibition of the month, “The world of a minotaur going to a butterfly” by Shin-Yuu Benítez Palmeros, an eighth semester Plastic Arts student, was recently inaugurated at the LDLN. This exhibition is an immersive installation that stands out for being composed of three parts: two murals with butterfly and minotaur icons; an engraving made with sugar and etching technique; and a cocoon placed in the center of the gallery. “As a 22-year-old Mexican artist, I am trying to build an identity through my pieces,” Shin-Yuu explained.
