Alexis Mac Allister as an alternative to Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea

The Enzo Fernandez saga will certainly liven up the winter transfer market. The signing is not yet fully secured for the Blues although the player has expressed a desire to sign at Chelsea. Graham Potter will target Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister if the team cannot reach an agreement for SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Mac Allister will be a much cheaper option than Fernandez. He also had a phenomenal tournament in Qatar, scoring an assist in the final against France to help his team lift the cup. Chelsea are hoping to sign both players but that is unlikely to happen. Acquiring these two players seems complicated.

According to The Times, Chelsea will make Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister their priority if the West London side fail to complement the arrival of Enzo Fernandez this winter. The Blues have indicated they intend to pay the £106m release clause for Fernandez. The Portuguese club want this amount paid in full and intend to keep their star midfielder. The player, for his part, is ready to go into battle to force his departure. This is a situation that does not benefit either party.

Chelsea are looking to rejuvenate their midfield

Mac Allister shines with its versatility. He can evolve into different positions and Graham Potter likes his profile enormously. Furthermore, the fact that he has already played with the current Chelsea manager could give us an advantage in the negotiation for him. The 24-year-old has impressed in the Premier League with the Seagulls so far. He was also impressive against the Blues in his side’s 4-1 draw at the Amex Stadium in October.

As the current midfielder ages, both players will be an instant upgrade for Chelsea. Fans are hoping the club can sign them both, but that is highly unlikely to happen. Chelsea have demonstrated their ambition in this transfer window by signing several players and investing more than €100m in their recruitment. The Blues don’t intend to stop there and count on strengthening themselves with a few more arrivals on the schedule.
