The associates of Alexei Navalny, the leader of the opposition who died in prison in Russia, have not managed to find premises in Moscow where they could say goodbye to the opposition leader, Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmish said on the “X” social network.
Navalny’s associates have called most of the representatives of private and state funeral homes, other suitable facilities and funeral parlors.
“Somewhere they say that the premises are occupied. Somewhere they refuse, hearing Navalny’s name. In one place, they told us directly that they forbade the ritual agencies to work with us,” Jarmisha explained.
Navalny’s remains were brought to Moscow on February 25.
Jarmiš said on Monday that they are looking for premises to hold a public farewell to Navalny. The farewell was planned to be held “at the end of this working week”. Jarmis invited those who have rooms suitable for farewells to contact him.
Vladimir Osechkin, the founder of the human rights protection project “Gulagu.net”, believes that the funeral should be postponed in order to conduct additional expertise.
As Osechkin pointed out, Navalny could have been killed. “There is evidence of the possible use of violence against Alexei Navalny on February 15, 16 [cietumā] IK-3,” said the activist.
There is also evidence that Navalny may have been tied up, prevented from moving by blocking his hands and feet, and tortured with cold. “We passed this information to Navalny’s team, more precisely – to the chief investigator and our colleague Hristo Grozev,” added Osechkin.
