The UK government has frozen the assets of six Russian prison governors who were in charge of the “Polar Wolf” penitentiary in the Arctic Circle, where Alexei Navalny died in prison.
The people in question have been sanctioned and will be banned from traveling to the UK, according to the BBC.
«Those responsible for the brutal treatment of Navalny must be under no illusions that they will not be held accountable.”emphasized the British Foreign Minister, David Cameron.
Many Western leaders have argued that responsibility for the Kremlin critic’s death lies with Russian authorities, including President Vladimir Putin.
The British government also called for the immediate handover of Navalny’s body to his family, as well as a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death.
UK officials previously told Bloomberg that they believe prison guards tortured Navalny, repeatedly holding him in solitary confinement.
It is noted that, in addition to Britain, the US government has announced that it will announce on Friday, February 23, a “significant” package of sanctions against Russia to account for the death of Alexei Navalny.
