Alexandra Trusova and Makar Ignatov’s Surprise Wedding: A New Chapter for Figure Skating Rivals

Famous figure skater Alexandra Trusova married Makara Ignatovasilver medalist of the Russian Championship. Relatives and closest friends of the figure skater were present at the registration office: Anna Frolova, Sofya Samodelkina and Maria Levushkina.

However, there were many more people at the departure table. And the unexpected guest was Anna Shcherbakova: not many people believed in her cordial relationship with Trusova after their clash at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

Together since childhood

Trusova and Shcherbakova have known each other since childhood. They trained with Eteri Tutberidze and even stood together on the podium at the 2020 European Championships.

As children, skaters often competed in competitions, and after their first success they gave interviews together. For example, Trusova and Shcherbakova, in an interview with Tatler magazine in 2020, talked about working with Tutberidze, their first steps in figure skating, and their future career plans. Shcherbakova also admitted that she considers Trusova a friend with whom they can talk about almost everything.

Drama Olympic Games

However, even before the start of the 2022 Olympic Games, fans began to assume that the relationship between Trusova and Shcherbakova would soon end. Athletes from the individual division had to fight for gold, and the victory of one skipper would mean the defeat of the other.

In fact, they had already participated in competitions, but it was not clear if their friendship would stand the test of the Olympics. Many were skeptical about this, because the Games are the most important start in any athlete’s career.

Two dramas took place at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Trusova was left with a silver medal after a performance that was technically more difficult than that of Nathan Chen, a single skater from the United States.

Shcherbakova did not make a single mistake in her performance and won gold based on total points. At the press conference after the awards ceremony, there was a certain coldness between the skaters. It seemed that there would be no trace left of the past relationship. Especially after Trusova’s emotional statement.

– Records are always important to me. But this medal, the one I think I deserved with my performance, was important to me. This is the bottom line. I don’t regret the other medals I didn’t get due to my achievements. And in Beijing I tried, I achieved my goal. And only this medal was important to me,” said the skater in an interview with Sport24.

Journalists also noted that Trusova, upset because of the silver medal, did not praise Shcherbakova’s first place.

“Emotionally, I have a kind of emptiness, I can’t feel any joy for myself or for others,” Trusova told reporters.

There is friendship

After the Olympic Games, journalists actively asked Shcherbakova and Trusova about their relationship. At first, the athletes kept quiet, and then they made such comments that more and more questions began to arise. For example, after the Olympics Shcherbakova promised to tell Trusova “everything she needed.” Already in Russia, those loud words were reminded of the skater, but Anna refused to answer and remained silent.

At the same time, skaters did not show each other on social networks, and then they even posted pictures together when they were taking a break between training and performances in Krasnoyarsk.

This did not convince many fans: most fans assumed that the communication between the athletes was only formal. However, recently Trusova and Shcherbakova began to be seen together more and more. For example, they sat next to each other at the competition of the Russian Challenge show program, which was held in the spring of 2024.

And on August 17, Shcherbakova shared a video on her social network, where she is very stylish and beautiful “going somewhere.” This surprised all skater fans.

– Is it really possible for a wedding?

– Well, it can’t be!

– I hope it’s for the wedding!

A little later, Shcherbakova posted a video with her bride, confirming that they have a good relationship. With their example, the girls prove that there is still true friendship in sports.
