Alexandra Efraimoglu won the gold medal at the European Trampoline Championships in Guimaraes, Portugal. The 19-year-old champion reached the biggest distinction of her career by winning the final, which had two legs: In the first leg she got the highest score among the eight finalists with 26.300 b. and then, in the final four, she scored 26.200 points, edging out to a tie with Portugal’s Mariana Cascalieira, who won the silver medal. The trio of the podium was completed by the Frenchwoman Mael Dumitrou-Marin with 24,700 b..
“The truth is that the specific programs I performed in the final were among the best I have done in general, that is, they were high score, which combined with a gold medal makes me even happier that it was accompanied by such a good execution and with such good programs. Overall the whole experience was incredible,” said our “gold” champion, who added: “Essentially, the final score depends on the technique more of the program but also on the difficulty. That is, each exercise has a certain degree of difficulty and each program consists of 8 exercises and this is how the whole comes out. It definitely takes a lot of physical strength. Many athletes get stuck and forget exercises.
The bad thing about the sport is that it’s hard to find the equipment and combined with the space. For example, in our gym we don’t have the full equipment. So I often have to go abroad for preparations so that I can try programs because I have to train in pieces and do the programs finally in the race, which has several consequences and definitely makes it much more difficult.”
Efraimoglou had taken 8th place in the previous European Championship last year in Rimini, Italy, in her debut in the Women’s category, while last year she had finished 7th in the corresponding World Championship in Birmingham.
