New York Alexander Zverev uses the time before the US Open for a tourist program with his friend Sophia Thomalla. A museum inspires the tennis Olympic champion – but also causes a lack of understanding.
Alexander Zverev particularly liked the visit to the Museum of Modern Art during the tourist program with his friend Sophia Thomalla in New York before the US Open. However, some exhibits left the Olympic tennis champion skeptical.
“Some things were really very interesting and I was very interested in them. And then there were some things like a line on the television. Everyone said: That’s beautiful. Great,” said the 26-year-old with a laugh over the weekend. “Or there is a square of straw that you see in every field in Germany. Well, in New York it’s just art because you don’t see any straw in the city there.”
“Sometime mentally switched off”
It was his 33-year-old girlfriend’s idea to go to the modern art museum in Manhattan. Even if the visit was interesting, after four hours he “eventually switched off mentally,” reported Zverev and joked: “That’s when I started eating straw.”
