You won’t see Alexander Zverev like this for much longer
It’s quite possible that David Nalbandian was the professional who made the bun socially acceptable on the world’s tennis courts a few years ago. Roger Federer only tamed his hair with a rubber band on the training pitch, but at the moment only Stefanos Tsitsipas is wearing the bun with pride in the absolute top class. Some competitors (Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev) don’t have the necessary options, others like Andrey Rublev prefer to be classic.
Zverev praises and blames Ofner
Which actually also applies to Alexander Zverev. But after his success against Sebastian Ofner on Monday in the Vienna Stadthalle, he appeared for both the on-court interview and the press conference with a variation of Nalbandian’s instructions.
The 2021 Vienna champion did not want to reveal which bet he lost exactly. Just this much: “I’ll go to the hairdresser again in November.”
Zverev also had words of praise for his opponent Sebastian Ofner (as we know, also a betting loser when it comes to hair), but he couldn’t accept the Styrian’s self-assessment that he would never reach the top ten. In his view, this attitude is not the right one. After all, there are also late bloomers in the tennis scene.
