Alexander Zverev is not worried about the future of tennis even after top stars Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal might end their careers.
“The last few years I’ve been on tour, there’s been Roger (Federer), Rafa and Novak. Those were three competitors that you can’t compare to anyone else. But tennis is in good hands. The young generation is great,” said the 25-year-old from Hamburg at the Munich clay court tournament.
Federer resigned last year. The successful careers of Djokovic (35) and Nadal (36) are also coming to an end.
There are a few potential successors. In Zverev’s opinion, the spectators can especially look forward to the duels between the Spanish US Open winner Carlos Alcaraz (19) and Jannik Sinner (21) from Italy. “It could be a bit the new Rafa Roger. I think that the two have incredible respect for each other in terms of sport and that they get along well with each other, »said the German Olympic champion.
Alcaraz is number two in the world, Sinner eight. Zverev also wants to be back in the top ten. According to his own statement, four months after his comeback he would only be a few percent short of top form. “I think I’m playing better every week,” said the Davis Cup professional. Zverev is currently in 16th place in the world rankings.
