In the next round, Zverev will face the winner of a match between French Alexander Muller and Australian Adam Walton.
In another match in the same round, Austrian Dominic Thiem said goodbye to the world of tennis, leaving the first round of the tournament.
Thiem lost to American Ben Shelton in three straight sets, 6/4, 6/2, 6/2.
